Cubes, Water, and Gaming

As of last night, I’ve officially upped the ante: not only have I begun playing Perplex City, but I’m now enmeshed in StreetWars, as well. I’d call them both Alternate Reality Games (ARGs), tho they’re quite different. I won’t go into all of that now (more after I’ve progressed a bit in StreetWars), but I wanted to report that, yes, while StreetWars is in fact a glorfied version of Killer, it’s much more of an ARG than I was afraid it would be. I wasn’t wrong in thinking very strongly in a certain girl’s direction last night, “you’re in game; act like it!” I appreciate that most players seem to be taking the game seriously. Because if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well, as Brent would say.

Last night, as directed, I drove to an intersection in a sketchy part of downtown. I kept my distance while the man in the trenchcoat and hat instructed the hottie in the running shorts and his friend where to go, then received the same instructions: park in the ally next to the underpass, and wait to see the Supreme Commander for my assignment. After McHotPants and crew were through, I received my mark from the SC, along with praise for my willingness to take two shots of Jack. But really, who wouldn’t have? Apparently some of these “assassins” are afraid of a little booze…

Today, I’ve discovered that David Foster Wallace is my assassin. He’s been cyber-stalking me all day. I think he’s hoping I’ll give away my presence (or lack thereof) at a computer. I’ve taken to posting by cron, just to throw him off. If you’re out there, DFW, I’ll give you a clue - I’m not sitting at a computer when this post goes live. Rather, I’ll be aiming to wet my own mark, who’s been a little too comfortable so far…
