Back in the office after an excellent weekend in CT with Tim, fireworks, BBQs, billions of stars; every bug bite worth the effort to get it. - more on Twitter

Theater is church. But so, too, is church theater.

“Theater is church. Theater is people sitting in the dark, watching people standing in the light talk about what it means to be human.”

That’s always been one of my favorite quotes about theater, even though I’m not certain at all who said it. Clearly, the reverse is true, as well - church has always been theatrical. Unfortunately, I think it’s getting out of hand; I didn’t think so many people wanted their religion delivered as a big, overblown Broadway musical. I love extravaganza as much as the next boy, but since when does video projection figure in to spirituality? It’s no wonder so many people end up following blindly when salvation is indecipherable from celebrity.
