Interface Achieved

Testing the prototype motion tracking

Well, I suppose decided more than achieved, but that sounds less like sexy sci-fi. We settled on using motion tracking as our hand/gesture interface today, after throwing together some wicked cool LED mittens. (We’re going to use wrist bands for the final version, but couldn’t find any on short notice. Also: it’s cold.) The foot interface will be a 4×8 foot grid of 18 squares (16″ on a side), made of some hard-ish material.

We spend most of our time today wiring up the gloves and playing with Daniel’s motion tracking software. Our next step will be to tweak the code for our purposes and start building a library of code that will recognize the actions I posted the other day. I’m going on a materials expedition on Wednesday to start building the floor, and I’m hoping beyond hope to find and use some conductive paint somewhere in the process.
