Paris in April

We all know sex sells, and though us podfolk have had some good boy-on-podcast action for a couple of months now, all those straight kids out there have had nothing to get their hard drives spinning. If anything could thrust podcasting into the mainstream even faster than it’s already getting there on its own, it’s sex. And if there’s anyone who knows about straight sexy thrusting, it’s Paris Hilton.

Podcasting is hot. But it just got hotter. Paris Hilton invites you to join her on “The Paris Hilton Podcast — Countdown to House of Wax,” beginning on April 29. Join Paris and friends as she shops, parties, poses and publicizes in the days leading up to the May 6 opening of House of Wax.

Come on, subscribe. You know you want to. There’s even a House of Wax branded iPodder, for the uninitiated. If you’re curious, but just can’t bring yourself to outwardly support The Slutty One, Adam Curry will be interviewing her on his show next week. He’s currently taking submissions of questions: adam at curry dot com, put “Paris Questions” in your subject. It’s great that Adam scored that interview, tho personally I’d rather hear Madge interview Paris. Can you hear the cunt-o-sphere imploding?

It looks like she’ll only be podcasting for the week leading up to the release, and yet I think this is an important development for podcasting. For one, it’s the first time (to my knowledge) that a commercial podcast is being produced to promote a product. More importantly, it’s the first podcast by a major celebrity. (Adam Curry aside, of course. I don’t think eve he would argue that he currently ranks as high as Paris.)

Personally, I just hope they let her do her thing and go all-out. I want unedited, no censoring. I’m not holding out for it. It is a marketing ploy, after all. Paris Hilton has become such a cartoon character. An amusing one, to be sure, who will likely provide hours of campy audio entertainment starting next week. But wouldn’t it be great to get a glimpse of the humanity under the wax?
